A family saga, full of twists and turns…

By Alison MacKenzie on 15 Nov. 2016

This is a great family saga, like the road in the title, it is full of twists and turns. The characters are feisty and interesting but there is enough of the social history woven into the plot to lift this book above many similar stories. The locations are beautifully described as are the historical events that take place. This is a heartwarming novel, written with humour and sensitivity, highly recommended!
The story is a realistic, emotional and a thoroughly enjoyable read

Long Road, Many Turnings was recommended to me by a friend. The story is a realistic, emotional and a thoroughly enjoyable read. This book is real page-turner.

Thankyou everyone for all your reviews, very much appreciated. My next book’ Another Mother’s Child’ will be out soon and here are a couple of pre press reviews.

What an interesting story! I liked the parallel stories of Lizzie and her great-great-grandmother Ellen, and the very different lives they lead but the connection that Lizzie feels with Ellen regardless. I also really enjoyed the build-up of Lizzie and Faith’s relationship throughout the book.

‘What is remarkable about Another Mother’s Child is how the past becomes even more vivid than the present, The way Ellen has been brought to life made me think of Colm Toibin’s portrayal of Eilis Lacey in ‘Brooklyn’. The interweaving of the twin dramas of Ellen’s struggle for dignity and a worthwhile future and of Lizzie’s painstaking efforts to track her footsteps gives the book its pace and narrative drive.
It is a powerful story of human misfortune and resilience, movingly told, and with a striking cast of characters conveying the spirit of both eras.
I love this book and hope it finds the recognition it deserves. It may be the story of one family, but it must be representative of so many others from that time and place.’
